Some of Queensland's earliest railways served the outback... the early resource railways replacing animal power in those areas of Australia west of the 'ranges'. Today's resource railways primarily haul export coal.
Aramac Tramway Museum is specifically oriented to the region's rail heritage.
Emerald Rail Station (above) is a classical QR station design and is similar to the Archer Park station in Rockhampton.
Many outback communities have museums include the Stockman's Hall of Fame (Longreach), the Ilfracombe Historical Society's machinery collection and the Australian Worker's Heritage Centre at Barcaldine.
