Lahey's Main Page

This locomotive would definitely appear to be Lahey's Class A Shay, SN697, originally built for North Mount Lyell Mining (Tasmania).
The cab and bunker style appear to match Lahey's SN697, as does the stack. The cars appear to match the Type1 Climax skeleton bogie cars as used exclusively by Lahey's here in Australia.
Lahey's was the only east coast logging operation I can readily recall that regularly loaded relatively short logs 3 abreast + occasional "rider" logs on their cars. The excess width of the Climax skeleton car bunks allowed them to do so with some stability, whereas all other East Coast Aussie Loggers used log bogies with relatively narrow bunks.
The LRRSA "Lahey's Canungra Tramway" book is invaluable for checking the details of this loco. Careful study of the pics in the Canungra book may give a fix on the location, Lahey's had a number of low "span log" style bridges covering minor depressions and shallow creeks along their line, (check the reflection of the fallen logs to the right of the 2nd car).
